| About Me I grew up and lived in Old San Juan for over twenty years. After obtaining degrees in art history and Caribbean studies I worked mainly in the arts, eventually becoming Director of the Crafts Development Program at the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company. This program gave government grants to artisans who kept alive the native arts and crafts. I learned first hand how artisans express their love of beauty, and was especially interested in their jewelry. The program sponsored many Festivals, and, together with other government agencies we celebrated an International Folk Arts Fair that was awarded the Picasso Medal; UNESCO’s highest honor. I was later appointed the Art Consultant for the Art in Public Places program for the island’s commuter train system, and established art in sixteen stations. My involvement in the cultural arts scene provided the opportunity to serve on the board of directors of the Museum of the Americas, as a panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts in their Folk and Traditional Arts and Visual Arts Divisions, and as project evaluator for many of their projects. I have also served as part of the curatorial team at the Museum of American History of the Smithsonian Institution. This experience with so many artists awakened in me the desire to develop a line of handmade jewelry reflecting historical and contemporary designs, working in sterling silver and natural gemstones. My creations are delicate, feminine and colorful; great accessories for every day, a special occasion or that perfect gift. For the past six years I have lived in Miami Beach, Florida. Pavlova M. |
